How do you store red and black caviar?

Wie lagert man roten und schwarzen Kaviar?

Red caviar is considered a noble delicacy, and like all exclusive products, it requires special storage conditions. Its shelf life depends on whether it is loose, in a sealed package, or in an already opened container. In any case, storing caviar requires strict adherence to specific guidelines.

You can buy caviar with up to 40% discount directly from the manufacturer IKRiNKA here.

How long does caviar last?

Caviar in a sealed package can last up to 12 months. However, its shelf life varies considerably depending on the manufacturing process and packaging, which is why you should always refer to the information on the label. For longer storage, a temperature range of -4 to -6 °C is recommended. However, this temperature does not correspond to the usual conditions in either the freezer compartment or the refrigerator, which can be a challenge for buyers.

If the temperature in your refrigerator is higher than optimal and too low in the freezer compartment, the required range can be achieved with a simple trick: place ice in a separate container and put the caviar tin into it. Of course, the ice container should be adapted to the size of the caviar tin. The ice must be replaced regularly.

Caviar should not be stored in an open tin can. After opening, it should remain in the metal packaging for a maximum of 5–6 hours. Even if you bought caviar in a glass container, it should not be left open. Contact with oxygen causes caviar to spoil much faster and lose its flavor. In a plastic container with an airtight lid, it can be stored for up to 3 weeks.

If you bought loose caviar, it will not last longer than a week at home. When buying, pay attention to the freshness of the product. To maintain quality, it should be transferred into a sterilized glass jar that can be tightly sealed. In the refrigerator, the caviar is best stored on the coldest shelf near the back wall.

How to store caviar?

If you have opened a tin and want to keep the caviar fresh for as long as possible, you can proceed as follows: Sterilize a glass jar, coat the inside with olive oil, fill in the caviar, and seal the jar airtight. In this way, caviar can be stored for up to 6 months.

Can red caviar be frozen? It is not recommended to store caviar in the freezer compartment. Low temperatures destroy the structure of the grains, alter the consistency, and worsen the taste. The result can be a mushy mass. After freezing, you risk getting a product of inferior quality than what you originally purchased.

Red caviar is a delicate product whose quality depends on many factors. Its storage requires as much attention as its selection when buying. Because adherence to storage conditions directly determines the quality and thus the value of the delicacy.
